10 Coaching Quotes

10 of my favorites from the best in the business… “Material possessions, winning scores, and great reputations are meaningless in the eyes of the Lord, because He knows what we really are and that is all that matters. When people ask me now if I miss coaching UCLA basketball games, the national championships, the attention, the trophies, and everything that goes with them, I tell them this: I miss the practices.” John Wooden “Now I want everybody to think here for a second… how much does this game mean to you? Cause if it means something to ya, you can’t stand still. You understand? You play fast! You play strong! You go out there and dominate the guy you’re playing against, and make his ass quit! That’s our trademark! That’s our M.O. as a team! That’s what people know us as!” Nick Saban “First of all, what happens is, when you’re good at something, you spend a lot of time with it. People identify you with that sport, so it becomes part of your identity.” Coach Kzyzewski “Help one kid at a time. He’ll maybe go back and help a few more. In a generation, you’ll have something.” Al McGuire “If you make every game a life and death proposition, you’re going to have problems. For one thing, you’ll be dead a lot.” Dean Smith “To have long term success as a coach or in any position of leadership, you have to be obsessed in some way.” Pat Riley “The best teacher is the one who suggests rather than dogmatizes and inspires his listener with the wish to teach himself.” Edward Bulwer-Lytton “My dad always had this little sign on his desk: The bigger your head is, the easier your shoes are to fill. He really drilled that in.” Phil Jackson “The key to coaching is not what you do, but the way you do it. The intangibles, the motivational parts of the game are the most important facets of it.” Rick Pitino “If it doesn’t bother you, it won’t bother them.” Pat Summitt
